Case Study- MyinfoQ

myinfoQ is a mobile originated experience that concludes on the web. It enables the collection, aggregation and ongoing discovery of personal information and event

The aim of myinfoQ is to tag your everyday interests so that you don’t forget a thing.

Dugald Holmes and his business partner started myinfoQ in 2008. It is a privately funded startup business based in Australia. myinfoQ allows user generated SMS codes for self-distribution of information in areas such as real estate, small business, events, music and more.

Since starting the business, Dugald revealed the best lessons learnt are to seek professional/industry advice early on. He admits that he has faced the typical challenges of many self-funded startup businesses, but feels that professional advice has given him the guidance to develop a successful business.

myinfoQ operates from Canberra as Dugald feels that the city and region provides an innovative family-oriented environment with a very close business and technology community. As a result the company is currently involved with Canberra BusinessPoint, which Dugald says has given him the initial foundations to build his business.

The ongoing mentorship, guidance and introductions are of real value to startup organisations like ours. The mentoring has been great for ongoing maintenance and checkpoints,

“The networking opportunities provided by Canberra BusinessPoint have been really beneficial to myinfoQ. It has opened many doors and created many opportunities that we didn’t know existed,” he continued.

Dugald sees his biggest success as launching myinfoQ at TechCrunch50, the premier startup conference in the Silicon Valley. myinfoQ competed with more than 1,000 global applicants from 40 countries, for one of 150 places at the conference in September. myinfoQ was launched to thousands of delegates including high tech CEOs and venture capitalists.

“Attending and presenting at Techcrunch50 was a culmination of months of effort and a true success milestone. Since then we have received much needed interest here in Australia, and we are now in the process of securing our first commercial project,” he said.

Although myinfoQ is a small startup, on a global scale the future for the company looks bright. The interest in the space that combines mobile and internet technologies is growing rapidly as people take advantage of the new technology.

“We have an established market place of 350 million mobile phones in our initial target markets of Australia, USA and UK alone, so our future looks positive.”
